The Playground in Prisons project, developed by the NECF, aims to install playgrounds in all women's prisons throughout Kenya to provide children with opportunities to play. Play not only encourages early engagement and interaction with the world around them but also contributes to children's overall well-being and happiness.
This month, we launched a playground at Thika women's prison. Thika women’s prison is an hour away from Nairobi. Right off the main road, the Women’s detainment block hosts women incarcerated for various crimes. Mostly, petty offences.
Through our Nancy's Playground in prisons project, the children at at Thika women's prison have a safe space to develop their creativity, dexterity, motor skills, cognitive and emotional strength. As Nancy used to say, "Children must play!"
