The Nancy Ellen Crooks Foundation Launches a Solar Lights Campaign in memory of its Founder, Howard Crooks to Help Children Living Without Electricity Study at Night

[Nairobi, October 25] The Nancy Ellen Crooks Foundation (NECF), will launch an online fundraising campaign on October 26th in honor of its founder, Howard Crooks to provide 2000 solar lamps to students living with no electricity in Kenya. Howard was dedicated to the NECF and worked hard to make the organization a success. He believed that the lights provided a fast return on investment not only for the child receiving the lights but also the whole family. The fundraiser has an objective of raising $9,700 and will be held on the crowdfunding site Givebutter https://givebutter.com/tnWLzW . We will also accept donations via MPESA PayBill: Business Number is 600100 Account Number 0100008475282

40% of the country currently relies on kerosene as their primary source for lighting, this is neither a safe nor effective light source for children to study with. The NECF has provided more than 7500 solar lights since its inception 11 years ago, helping children and communities in need. The lights have shown to increase the students’ grades, confidence and have provided the added benefit of safety for their families.

Reasons to Give the Gift of Light

1 – ACCESS TO LIGHTS HELPS CHILDREN SUCCEED.

Access to solar lights has shown to improve the academic performance of children living without electricity. They are able to see clearly and study more effectively, and their grades and confidence show it!

2 – SOLAR LIGHTS CONTRIBUTES TO HEALTH AND SAFETY.

Solar lights reduce the risk of fire accidents and fume inhalation that can be caused by the use of kerosene lamps, the typical lighting source in non-electrified regions.

3 – IT ONLY TAKES $10 TO CHANGE THE LIFE OF A FAMILY.

10$ is all it takes to light up a study space night after night. To allow for better visibility at night, the lights are 6 times brighter than kerosene, they are durable, sustainable, and last up to 12 hours. With solar energy, families also save on lighting-related expenses.

4 – WE’LL KEEP YOU UPDATED WITH WHO YOUR GIFT HELPED.

We’ll ensure that your gift goes fully to the lights program and keep you updated with the lives it helped to change.

5 – TO KEEP HOWARD’S MEMORY ALIVE.

Howard’s dedication and love for NECF set the foundation for NECF to grow into what we are today. To keep Howard’s memory alive, join us in our journey of bringing happiness to more children in Kenya.

A donation of any amount can help a child study effectively and safely, night after night with no additional costs to be incurred by their family.
