NECF distributes 300 lights in Homa Bay County

FEBRUARY 2020 LIGHTS DISTRIBUTION

On February 27th, 2020, you helped NECF distribute 200 lights to students of Kamolo primary school and 100 lights to students at Alego primary school.

During an interview, Kamolo primary school headteacher Mr.  Benjamin expressed his concern over the lack of electricity in most of the children’s homes stating that it had become increasingly difficult for children to follow through on various work assignments given to them at the end of each school day.
Capture568-01.jpgIn another interview, David Okeya the top Class 8 student in Kamolo remembers the impact a similar distribution from the NECF 2 years ago in 2018 helped his older sibling study at home and was excited that he would also get a chance to benefit from the program. His goal as he stated it was to get 400/500 marks in his final national exams and book a spot in the top school in the country, Alliance High School.

Mrs. Millicent Anyango, a teacher and parent at Kamolo primary school is optimistic that the solar light that they receive will improve the atmosphere at their homes in the evening allowing her children to engage in school work after hours. As a trained educator, Millicent explained the importance of engaging in school work at homes which not only helps the child but the parent as well who has an opportunity to participate in the education of their child.

Kennedy Ogal, the headteacher at Alego primary school which was benefiting from the distribution for the first time was optimistic at the potential impact the solar lights would have on his pupils stating, “ Now that they have something to assist them with their studies at night, there will definitely be an improvement in their studies.”
